Hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the specific gravity or density of liquids based on buoyancy principles.
Commonly used in the petroleum industry (alcohol, gasoline, kerosene), beverage industry (acids, brine, milk, spirits) and industrial chemical processing.
2 Calibration Methods
- Comparing a freely floating hydrometer in different known liquid densities at each calibration point.
- Hydrostatic weighing (Cuckow’s method) with automated liquid surface positioning. This method is preferred because it uses no harmful chemicals and provides better accuracy with lower uncertainty.
Metcal offers ISO 17025 accredited hydrometer calibration services using Cuckow’s method.
Calibration Range – 0.500 g/ml to 4.000 g/ml
Best Measurement Uncertainty – 0.00050 g/ml
