Viscometer Calibration: Assuring Your Viscosity Measurement

Print

Viscometer is used to measure the viscosity of fluids, such as liquids and semi-solids. A regular viscometer calibration is much needed in several industries that deal with the fluids and their viscosity. Without an accurate viscometer calculation, no industry can maintain the safety and quality of its products. For example, if the viscosity of a certain food item or oil is wrongly measured due to a compromised viscometer then a certain company may have to bear some extra cost to deal with that miscalculated viscosity and it may affect the overall budget plus operational cost. So, a proper viscometer calibration is highly recommended involving the accuracy adjustment compared with standard viscosity measurements, preventive maintenance and replacement of faulty hardware.

Rotational Viscometer measures dynamic viscosity by rotating a spindle at a precise speed and measures the torque needed to overcome the viscous resistance to the induced movement caused by the presence of sample fluid between the spindle and sample container.

As viscometer’s spindle rotates continuously, the mechanical moving parts, spring and sensor accuracy will diminish over time, which can lead to intermittent or inaccurate readings.

Metcal can provide ISO 17025 accredited rotational viscometer calibration services up to 100,000 mPa.s with best measurement uncertainty +/- 1.0% of reading – based on ASTM standards.

Value-added service options include Accuracy adjustment, Preventive maintenance, Parts replacement and repair. Premium 1-Day turnaround and on-site calibration services available.

Metcal can offer Brookfield Viscometer User Application training – Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) claimable.
